16 October 2014, Oxford. Ferris Mueller’s Day Off, a game born from the love of a great film, an unfortunate typo and an accidental pun, is releasing today on iOS and Android. Everyone knows what happens when you base a game around fantastic gameplay — you get a fantastic game — but what happens if you base a game around an average pun? Keep reading to find out.
Side note: This has also been an interesting study in the effects of building a fully stocked bar in a 2-person game studio.
Ferris Mueller’s Day Off is the latest point’n’click adventure game from the creators of Forever Lost. It’s full to the brim with designed-when-drunk puzzles, characters that are just begging to get Glitch sued, and fun galore. Will you be able to find your lost mule that has gone missing on his 9th sick day of the year?
Made by Glitch Games, the self-proclaimed adventure game experts, Ferris represents a pretty sharp U-turn in terms of theme for Glitch Games — most well known for their grim and grimy Forever Lost series — though the intricate puzzles and information gathering from Forever Lost are still very much in place.
During one of Glitch’s regular discussions about films, this time via email, an accidental typo was made in regards to a critically acclaimed masterpiece by John Hughes. The resulting hilarity from the accidental pun then spawned a much bigger discussion on what would end up becoming this wild-west infused parody of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and other classic films.
The game is available worldwide for iOS and Android as of today, January 17th, 2014.
