Welcome to Thursday Question Time – our weekly chance to get some feedback from you guys whilst also getting to know you a little bit better.
Last week we asked you what you would like to see more of in our future games and the general consensus was more story and mystery. This week we’d like to know: What do you think about the Camera feature?
Also, we know that technically it’s Friday today but we’re indie devs so we can do what we like. We play by our own rules, not this “calendar” thing people keep going on about.

At first the camera idea was very strange to me, but after playing Forever Lost 1 & 2, and Ferris Mueller, I’ve gotten used to it and I like it. It helps if I remember to discard photos I don’t need anymore! I say keep it. It helps with puzzles better than long-winded journal reading material. One more thing — please don’t ever infest your games with hidden objects and multiple long drawn out mini-movies either! I am so sick of those and so looking forward to Forever Lost 3. I like games I can play, rather than cinematic extravaganzas that play me!

Well I said in my reviews I LOVE the camera and it helps ALOT. I also think you use the fact that a camera is in the game pretty well, during Ferris I caught myself having two pictures out, one with written down notes to solve a riddle (The Piano :P).
One thing I mentioned in my review that would improve the camera if one could store the pictures in different folders, especially those riddles where you need to keep track of certain shapes / colors would be alot easier to handle that way. And you could implement a “Mass delete” feature when one delets the folder, so done pictures do not clutter up the still necessary ones.
Keep up the good work!

Haha, yea that Piano puzzle can be quite tricky without photos 🙂
Organising photos is now on our Wish list thanks to your feedback, hopefully we will be able to implement it but no promises just yet 🙂

Hello, 🙂
As I mentioned in my last Thursday’s response (according to the “calendar” thing), the camera is what makes your games special. I love using it and writing notes on the pictures I take; it really makes the experience more enjoyable. Also, the fact that one had to solve a puzzle to get the camera (in FL1) is really a great idea. So maybe for those people who do not like using it, maybe make finding the camera as an optional puzzle so they do not have to use it, just an idea. ^^
Not only that I use the camera during the games, but I actually downloaded the FL camera app and I use it in everyday life. It is simply amazing and helpful.
Have a lovely weekend,
-Rachel

We could make it something that could be turned off in the options. That way if someone doesn’t want to use it they can switch it off. Or they could just resist using it 🙂
Glad to see the FL Camera app is getting some use!

I think the camera feature is great. It really helps when you have to remember a certain pattern or set of numbers for a puzzle. In other games I find myself having to go get a pencil and paper and write it down in real life, which isn’t so terrible but does interrupt the game.
I understand why some people would want to take it out to make the game longer, but I don’t think that’s a good idea. Sure it would increase the length of the game, but not with quality gameplay time. It isn’t very fun to be going back and forth trying to remember something for a puzzle. Also, if you really don’t want to use the camera, you don’t have to! You can just not use it if you want.
Overall I don’t think it is necessary to change the camera at all. It works great and is very useful in solving certain puzzles.

I completely agree with you, there’s no point in saying “over 10 hours of gameplay” if 5 of those are spent backtracking between places just to help remember a clue that could be photographed.
Our games maybe slightly shorter than some ( yet longer than others ) but we believe they are at least full of gameplay. This is something the camera greatly helps with. We’re just counting down the days until someone more know than us decides to implement one in their games and get all the credit 🙂

Having the camera is really cool. Nice feature.
I know it will take forever to implement, but it would be nice if the camera-roll, version 2.0 or 3.0 or whenever, acted more like the iPhone camera-roll, where we can swipe to the next image, mass erase, pinch zoom, etc.
Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next game you guys release!

A more advanced camera album is on our wish list however as you rightly expected, would be a complicated thing to make so we can’t make any promises about it currently.

After reading all the other comments above. Yea i think they are all right : The camera feature is a great complement for adventure games. It makes puzzle games easier than before. Congratulations to the scripter.
However i am still liking the idea to remove camera from the game, im not telling you to completly remove it from the game, maybe just in the final puzzle or at the last rooom/section/chapter.
To give it a challenge end. Stay awesome guys.
Best regards to ya.
