Welcome to Thursday Question Time – our weekly chance to get some feedback from you guys whilst also getting to know you a little bit better.
Last week we asked you what you thought of the Camera feature, and it turns out to be quite a popular feature. Phew! This week we’d like to ask: What other adventure games do you like, and why?

The Room and The Room 2 are the best adventure games other than the ones from Glitch Games!
The game play is extraordinary and the atmosphere and story really keep you from clicking the home button on your device.

Thanks Kevin,
I have played The Room and downloaded The Room 2. They are highly polished games with a unique approach to the adventure/puzzle genre. Forever Lost is often compared to them, and I think that isn’t such a bad thing.

I don’t really play many mobile games, but in terms of (relatively) recent online / download games:
* Out of Order, clearly inspired by the classic Monkey Island / Discworld games.
* Ben There, Done That (and its sequel Time Gentlemen Please).
* For something rather more like the games you make, the Alice is Dead trilogy.

Hey Peter,
We can relate, since we hardly find time to play any computer games these days, mobile or otherwise. We do have a daily ritual of playing MarioKart 64, but that’s irrelevant.
Anything inspired by Monkey Island is heading in the right direction in my opinion, but I haven’t played any of the other titles you have mentioned. I now have a few more titles to add to my “Games to play” list, which isn’t a bad thing… just need to find the time now.

My three favourite adventure games other then the forever lost series are Lost Echo, The Silent Age, and Machinarium (in no particular order.) I played the iOS version of all of these apps, as I prefer to use my iPad to play games instead of my android phone.

Oops sorry, I forget to say why I liked those games! Well for one thing, all of them have great story lines. Even though I’m pretty sure Machinarium doesn’t have any words, it still manages to convey an interesting story through pictures. This actually makes the story a bit more interesting because you are not simply told directly what is going on, you have to infer. Lost Echo is just the opposite actually, with tons of text, but they made it work.
Another thing that sets these games apart is their graphics. All three have very different styles, but they all look amazing! Machinarium has very busy backgrounds, with tons of details that look almost hand drawn. The Silent Age is very minimalist, with sharp edges and solid colours. Lost Echo has ultra-modern looking graphics, hard to describe exactly but they look great to me. It must have been a lot of work too because many parts of the game are 3D, and can be viewed from all sides!
The third thing they have in common is pretty much impossible to explain. The developers have created games that are just fun to play. To be honest I don’t really know how they do it, but luckily I don’t have to because I’m not a game developer. Somehow, these three apps made me enjoy playing them, and that’s why they are my favourites!

Thanks for expanding on your previous post Hannah, this helps us understand the types of games our players like, and the reasons why they like them will help us evaluate how we can improve our games for future releases.
I actually started playing Machinarium a few weeks ago since I’d seen it hovering around our titles in the app store for some time now. I haven’t made it far enough into the game to have grasped any story, but the visuals blew me away. It has an art style I’d love to be able to do, but I know I couldn’t.
Lost Echo is another game I have downloaded but never played. The problem with being a game developer is that you never have any spare time to actually play any games other than your own. Creating a fully 3D environment can be a lot more work, we know this because Forever Lost 1 & 2 and Cabin Escape are fully 3D within a 2D engine. This means that a lot of modelled objects, geometry and textures are created but never shown.
Let’s hope developers stick to making games that are fun to play and not about squeezing money from people. These games are all examples of developers that make superb interactive experiences because it’s their passion. It’s not merely a business to them, and you’re not simply a number. If we didn’t need to eat and pay the bills then our games wouldn’t cost at all.

Hello, 🙂
I thought there was no question for this week, because I did not see your tweet. I feel late. Anyhow, some adventure games that I liked were: The Room (1 & 2), and Tesla’s Electric Mist. I enjoyed The Room because of its beautiful 3D graphics and the challenging puzzles. Tesla’s Electric Mist was not as challenging, but it had a nice story line, and interesting puzzles.

I really enjoyed Machinarium and Limbo. Just like with Forever Lost 1&2, I didn’t want to stop playing. I played both The Room 1&2 and although I liked the puzzles, the story was too convoluted to keep me engaged. I also enjoyed Year Walk because I thought it was beautiful and creepy and mysterious. I tend to enjoy games that are aesthetically pleasing, let me move at my own pace (nothing chasing me or attacking me), have an engaging/mysterious storyline, and of course has plenty of puzzles to solve. Can’t wait for Forever Lost 3. 🙂

I agree that the best games have mystery, mood, and aesthetics to go along with strong puzzles and storylines. It’s hard to find that perfect mix! I’m going to try some of the games you suggest while waiting for Glitch’s next masterpiece. 😊

So…before Glitch I enjoyed the puzzle/escape games of Haiku Games (fun stories and unique puzzles) and Fire Maple (gorgeous graphics and music). But now I’ve played all the Glitch Games games…and nothing else will do. I just finished Ferris Mueller, after weeks of playing Forever Lost,Cabin, and Short whenever I had time. So I was sitting here wondering what to do with my life now??? Which is why I came to check out the website. LOL–seriously, I’ve become addicted to the puzzles, music, storyline, graphics, mood, and general awesomeness of Glitch games. You’ve made puzzle games an art form. So, can we have some more, if you please? 🙂 Thank you for the hours of enjoyment!

The two other games I enjoyed as much as Forever Lost were Ghost Trick and Silent Age. I think Ghost Trick is an old classic and it works very well in a mobile version. Thanks for making your games!

I actually got started with two series, the room and Forever lost. With these two is like having a dinner and eating the best dishes first, it will be very hard to find games as good as them.
Still working through episode 3 of forever lost and then I will check all the other glitch games. I am already lowering my expectations because I find hard to believe they can make something else as good.

I played Cabin Escape, I loved it, the only problem is that having played forever lost it kind of made it a bit easy to know what to do, but definitely a great game.
I am playing forgotten room now, very hard (e.g. great), I am far from finishing it.
Look forward to Ellipsis
